is it me?

November 24, 2007

Hubby and I had a night out tonight, dinner and the symphony. Hubby wouldn’t normally go to the symphony, but he won the tickets at a swanky golf outing. Anyhoo, we’ve been to just about every restaurant in our area but somehow kept overlooking the local Steak & Ale. So we figured, hey, it’s been there forever and it’s still there, kind of a fixture of the area, so why not? We so shouldn’t have.

The service was excellent, I will give them that much, but the atmosphere was antiquated and hasn’t been updated since the 70’s / 80’s. The food was just okay- I got a ceasar salad that had hints of vinegar to it which made me think either A) it was their unique recipe or B) it was bad. My steak was okay, it was supposed to be grilled garlic sirloin, it was over cooked and didn’t have any garlic at all. The best part of my meal was the bread and my loaded baked potato. I ate maybe 1/4 of my salad and maybe 1/2 of my steak. Had we not had the concert to go to afterward I would have sent my food back and I NEVER send my food back.

What is unfortunate is that the food was not the worst part of our meal. We sat directly across from what hubby called “the family from Deliverance”. Hubby and I are not in any way prejudice, certainly don’t consider ourselves snobs, but we seriously don’t know who or why anyone let these people out of their cages!!

It was a man, a woman and a teenage boy. My 5 year old has better table manners than this teenager did! He was belching outloud, eating like a pig and all three of them just generally made the most ignorant comments. I made hubby take the seat facing them because I couldn’t have endured my own meal watching them. As I saw them when we walked in, the kid was eating with his mouth open, even with my back to him I could hear his lips smacking together and there was food all over his mouth!! Again, even my 5 year old has more control and can eat more neatly than this kid.

At first we thought maybe he’s developmentally disabled in some way, but after hearing him speak and hubby watching them, we decided he wasn’t and they were just the biggest hillbillies we had ever laid eyes on.

So needless to say, we’ll never go back there again. In better news though, the symphony was excellent as always and getting there and back was not stressful at all because I drove.

Let’s see…Didn’t do any shopping today and don’t plan to do any this weekend. I did go to Meijer, Lowe’s and Joanns, and drove past the Mall and shouldn’t have even done that!! The traffic was horrific! But seeing as though I can shop during the week, I think I’ll do my X-mas shopping then rather than on the weekends. It will just be too crazy busy! I think I have about half of my shopping done, did part of it online too, so that helped.

Anyway, since it’s been so long since I’ve blogged… last week Pgoodness and I went to dinner and had a nice evening catching up,  venting about family, and telling amusing stories our about our amazing boys. Turns out she re-joined the gym too so I am hoping that we could meet up there eventually. Baby’s schedule gets us there relatively early and I think her boys sleep in a bit. So maybe we’ll even out sooner than later!

Decorating the house and helping punkin pie with his letter to Santa tomorrow. I had started decorating the other day, but the ribbon I bought to wrap the posts on our front porch started bleeding and turning things pink, so I had to cut it all down! I found some better ribbon at Lowes today, so it won’t look as good as the original, but it will still look nice. I was a little disappointed in Joanns, I asked if they had outdoor ribbon and they suggested I spray the ribbon down with clear spray paint, like a laquer. So you want me to unroll a 12 foot span of ribbon and spray it down outside in 30 degree weather? I don’t think so. There’s no guarantee that what I bought won’t bleed, but I don’t think it’s going to rain again (snow most likely), so I shouldn’t have any problems. I’ll keep the scissors handy just in case…

That’s all for now…

the joann staff is, in general, pretty ignorant. I keep trying to buy this scrapbook thing - you have to take the empty box to the cashier? And four times now they don’t have it. DON’T put the box back out!! GEEZ!

Glad the symphony was good - crazy about the deliverance family! EW.
